I can’t believe I’m saying this, and I know it’s totally of out of the blue, Kevin and I bought our first home!
Say what?! That’s right, Kevin and I are homeowners!
Since when were you looking?
To be honest, we weren’t. Well kind of. Currently we are renting a 700 sq. ft. one bedroom apartment and have been here for a little over a year. It’s a beautiful apartment, but our rent just went up and I feel like we are starting to bust at the seams. Nothing ever feels clean and I feel like there are always clothes everywhere. Can anyone relate or are we just messy?
How did you start your search?
Knowing I didn’t want to re-sign our lease again, I started shopping around. In the DC metro area, a good rule of thumb is that the closer you are to the city, the more expensive the housing market. Kevin and I work in opposite directions so we had a limited area to shop within. Most of the houses in our ideal location were older OR there were three new-build neighborhoods we could afford.
Since there were so few new builds, we decided to go look at those first. That way if we ruled them out we’d know to just keep looking at existing homes for sale.
Right away we did not like the first neighborhood, so we were down to two options. We headed to those next, and to our shock, each site only had 2 or 3 homes sites left! Um, what?! Talk about pressure!
Time to start packing!
Kevin and I went home, talked about it, weighed all the options, and decided to go for it! As of last week we are officially building a townhouse in Maryland!
The builder broke ground on our townhouse yesterday and our projected move in date is May/June 2020. Here are pictures from the model home to give you all an idea of what our future home will look like!
XOXO, Kaitlyn
Continuing with M.E says
How exciting! All the best for your build.
